LeaderWorks Updates

It’s been a little while since we highlighted what’s happening over at LeaderWorks. Here’s a round-up of all the news and resources:

  • Giving Up is coming soon! My book, Giving Up: How Giving to God Renews Hearts, Changes Minds, and Empowers Ministry will be available for pre-order on September 30. In the meantime, read more about the book (and see some of the cover art!). It’s a practical guide that any leader could use to superheat the virtue of giving in their congregation, but I hope it also helps program-centric churches recognize the power of simple generosity to ignite discipleship and evangelism. Check back often or sign up for the newsletter—there will be lots of news and exclusive resources in the coming weeks.
  • Our new Assistant Director, Kolby Kerr, compiled resources and responses to the events in Charlottesville last week. Would that we might live to see a day when no one could fathom a Christ-follower aligning themselves with the hatred, violence, and bigotry we saw. Until that day, we must pray faithfully, speak out boldly, and act compassionately in our communities. We would love to hear what you had to say.
  • Consider coming on our January 2018 Pastor Tour of Israel to renew your ministry and help you ‘realize the story’ of the Bible. This week, we’ve highlighted Tel Beit Shean and the tragic leadership of King Saul. Saul’s story was all about what “might have been.” Doomed by his indecision and his impatience, Saul is a study in tragic irony. Come with us and see for yourself where his story ends.
  • Kolby reflects on some of the recent articles about the effects of increased smartphone use. This isn’t about shaking our heads at shrinking attention spans or selfie-posting—this is about destructive habits that lead to isolation, anxiety, guilt, and depression. It’s also far more than just a ‘youth’ problem. There’s too much at stake for church leaders not to develop and implement intentional spiritual formation in this area. Kolby provides a starting point. (Read it on your phone!)

Thanks for your continued support of LeaderWorks. Keep checking back with us to see what’s new, and let us know how we can help you do your work!
