Anglican worship continues the ancient tradition of a Christian Year.  Following the Church calendar helps us plan ahead, keeps us focused on the Gospel, and shapes our themes and emphasis throughout the year.  This will be also discussed in more detail in a later chapter.

But as you explore Sunday Worship, you need to know that each Sunday is only one of many in a cycle of time which revolves around the two great Gospel themes of Incarnation and Resurrection, with Christmas and Easter being the chief feast days.  In one important sense, this means that our time as a church is ordered not around the secular calendar (as important as that calendar is in our day to day lives) but around Christ.  It is a tangible way to live out our belief that he is the Lord of all, even of time, and especially of our time.
