The title makes me ask is it biblically necessary to persuade disciples to give using humour? Help them give painlessly?
As a young Christian years ago , reading John Stott talk of how Israelites give tithes and how much more we who know the grace of God should give. That was it.
I believe Stewardship, giving is covered in baptism and confirmation classes?
BTW is the title Founding Pastor an American thing?
Thanks for reading the blog. Here are some thoughts in response.
1. If John Stott said anything that I might contradict, please go with John Stott. He was my friend and will always be my hero on many levels.
2. That said, humor is a fact of life. Humor humanizes everything. And, especially with a difficult subject or in difficult times, humor is a way of saying to a group of people, we are all in this together. Now let’s look at the facts. (I actually remember John Stott opening up a very difficult topic about sex with a group of college students. I truly do. He said, “Many of you Christians here are wondering whether to prayer about sleeping with your boyfriend or girlfriend. (There was a pause…) Well, save your breath.” The place erupted in laughter!
3. Founding pastor? Not sure it is an American thing. I hope not!
