Over at LeaderWorks, I wrote a short blog about the preaching role of the Rector. Read it here. And buried in the last part of the article is a small link to a HUGE opportunity for Rectors of congregations. LeaderWorks and the American Anglican Council are sponsoring a “summit” at The Cove on December 3-6, 2018. This is going to be great! It is open to all Anglican clergy who are currently Rectors of congregations. Our purpose is very clear: we want to create a learning community of Rectors who are intent on elevating the practice and the role of preaching in the life of the local church.
In a recent letter to a group of Rectors I wrote this:
NO ONE KNOWS THE PREACHING BURDEN YOU CARRY WEEK BY WEEK.
No one. You are the Rector of a church. And Sunday-by-Sunday the people in your charge gather for worship. You have so much in common with them. You speak their language. You all drive automobiles. Your children attend school with their children. They are ‘like’ you in almost every way. Except for this: They do not know what it is like to preach as the Rector of a church. Not even your spouse will know what it is like. You are charged with the ‘care of souls’ and preaching ‘in season, out of season’, correcting, rebuking, exhorting, training, and explicating God’s Word falls only to you.
Leading our conversation on preaching will be Kevin Miller, Rector of Church of the Savior in Wheaton, Illinois. Kevin has been a dedicated leader in this subject for decades, spearheading the preaching content with Christianity Today and using his own pulpit to mentor new preachers. He is the right voice to lead us—but we need yours, too! You will find it rich and rewarding…and it will be filled with insights, tools, and practices that will advance your own preaching ability.
(Want to see Kevin and me in a killer interview and learn more about him? Go here.)
The Cove is an amazing place to gather, and there will be time to explore, hike, share, pray, encourage one another, and enjoy their fantastic cuisine.
If you are a Rector and would like to receive an invitation, please follow the links at LeaderWorks or call the American Anglican Council for a registration link.
