A Global Anglican Readership
One of the most exciting developments at Anglican Compass is the growth of our global Anglican readership. This trend has become especially notable in the global reach of our Advent and Christmas articles and the global financial support of our annual True North Campaign.
Though we were founded in the United States and our readership is still majority American, we have seen growth in readership and financial support worldwide. This tracks the deepening relationships between biblically orthodox Anglicans across the global Anglican realignment.
Planting Seeds for Global Growth
Founded in 2011, we began as “Anglican Pastor” and served a small audience, especially pastors in the southeastern United States. But from the beginning, our commitment to biblically orthodox Anglicanism was planting the seeds for further growth and global connection.
As our readership expanded beyond the clergy and to more geographies in North America, we rebranded in 2017 as Anglican Compass. This name was intentionally drawn from the Compass Rose, a long-time symbol of the global Anglican Communion. We also brought on a growing group of authors, including Anglican leaders with deep global connections, such as Winfield Bevins, David Roseberry, and Duane Miller.
Then, in 2022, we relaunched our site, deepening our commitment to introductory material for Rookie Anglicans but also strengthening our coverage of the global communion. Covering the “old” Anglican world, we published on the Lambeth Conference and the relationship of the British Monarchy to the Church. Most significantly, in 2023, we attended GAFCON in Rwanda and wrote on the Kigali Commitment and the realignment of the “new” Global Anglicanism.
Most recently, we’ve covered the presence of the global communion at the Investiture of Archbishop Steve Wood.
The Rise of a Global Readership
Subsequently, from 2022-2024, we have seen an increase in our readership worldwide. This extended audience is especially notable each December through our Advent and Christmas articles. Our most popular article for a global audience is our guide to the service of Nine Lessons and Carols.
In which countries have we seen this growing readership? In 2024, the top 12 countries for traffic to Anglican Compass were as follows. We include the approximate readership by country in parentheses (total global readership was 454K, visiting our pages more than 900K in the year).
- United States (257K)
- United Kingdom (55K)
- Canada (25K)
- Australia (20K)
- Nigeria (14K)
- South Africa (9K)
- India (6K)
- Ghana (6K)
- Philippines (5K)
- New Zealand (4K)
- Singapore (4K)
- Kenya (3K)
This represents five of the six inhabited continents. In South America, our largest readership is in Brazil, about 1300 people, which is #22 on our list.
Global Financial Support
In December 2024, we saw significant giving from global readers for the first time in our annual True North Campaign.
Of the 121 donations to the campaign, 20 (17%) were from sources outside the US, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and the UK.
These helped us to raise $12,400, which will be matched with another $12,000. Many thanks to our readership for their generosity!
Serving Our Global Readership
Finally, as we observe the growth of our global readership, we plan to serve it in four ways. Three of these are categories we will expand upon, and one will be completely new.
Existing Categories We Will Expand
- Guides to universal Anglican practices, such as the service of Lessons and Carols.
- Coverage of GAFCON and the Global Anglican Realignment.
- Spotlight of missions and mission partnerships, such as missions agencies New Wineskins, SAMS, NAMS, and the recent US-Rwanda art collaboration with Henry Munyaneza.
One Category That Will Be New
- Feature articles on major leaders, institutions, and movements in global Anglicanism.
